Crash of Barnum's Circus... Opening of the American Museum of Natural History...
Item # 599150 THE WORLD, New York, April 28, 1871 The frontpage carries a headline "Smashing A Circus" with subhead "Barnum's Caravan Run Into on the New Jersey Central Railroad", "Two men Killed and Wagon Demolished -- Tommy Welsh, the Dwarf Driver, Fatally Wounded -- Three Others Badly Injured -- Scenes at Crawford Station and Elizabeth -- The Inquest, Etc". The article goes into full detail of the collision of the circus caravan which was struck by a train and of the injuries and fatalities which resulted, included is the coroner's inquest too. A small diagram is included to show the area of the crash.
The last page of this issue contains "The New Museum in Central Park" which was the opening of The American Museum of Natural History. At that time it was housed on the second and third floors of the Arsenal building in Central Park.

This is complete in 8 pages with a slight irregular left spine and some small edge tears, two small holes on the front page other wise in good condition.
