EDINBURGH EVENING COURANT, Scotland, Nov. 3, 1779 Most of the front page is taken up with: "Further Thoughts on the Present Posture of Affairs, October, 1779" which has as its theme: "The two great parties into which this kingdom is unhappily divided, can agree in nothing but in maintaining & propagating one grand and capital mistake relative to the welfare of this nation, vis: That colonies are necessary for the support, preservation, and extension of commerce. A fatal error..." and the lengthy discussion on this makes several references to the American colonies. This carries over to take one-third of pg. 2.
Page 2 also has: '...letters from New York mention that there had been an exchange of prisoners at Boston, & that several of the English captains & others were arrived who made great complaints of the ill usage they met with during their confinement..." (see). Also: "...Administration...received advice that the Congress, after every effort to put a sufficient force under General Washington's command to drive Sir Henry Clinton off that continent, came to the violent measure of issuing an edict for pressing certain descriptions of men...no less than 3 rebellions broke out in consequence, one in Maryland, another in Virginia...confirm the amazing difficulty the Congress finds in keeping any troops together at all...".
Four pages, folio size, period notations in various ads, very nice condition.
