AMERICAN MERCURY, Hartford, Connecticut, January 6, 1813 The front page of this issue contains "The New-Year's Address of the Carrier of the American Mercury, to His Patrons" which is two columns in length.
Under "Navy Establishment" on page 2 was the reading of the bill for the third time to increase the size of the United States Navy. The bill passed, 70 - 56.
Also on page 2 is the report "Civic Honors to Naval Heroism" in which Isaac Hull, commander of the United States frigate Constitution, was being honored in New York City "...for his gallantry in capturing the British frigate Guerriere, took place in the commodious...".
Page 3 has an article "Commodore Rodgers" which praises his work and raises an interesting question. "...Instead of asking by way of sneer, why does not Com. Rodgers meet and fight the enemy?... let the question be reversed... why does not the enemy with this thousand ships of war, meet and fight commodore Rodgers...".

This is complete in four pages,close trimmed at the top of the first leaf with some loss of text on page two, lite scattered foxing, a few small edge tears, otherwise in good condition.
