The front page has: "The Mormons Leaving Salt Lake City" with the news coming from a party lead by Col. Kane, noting in part: "Gov. Cumming had returned to Fort Scott from Salt Lake City. He stated that almost instantly upon his arrival at the Mormon city he found the population moving off..." with much more concerning the period when Brigham Young agreed to step down from his position as governor, to be assumed by non-Mormon Alfred Cumming (see photos).
