THE EDINBURGH ADVERTISER, Scotland, July 23, 1779 The front page has a terrific item which sums up the case of war in America, beginning: "The times require unanimity, we must not ask how we came into the present state of danger, but consult & struggle to rescue Great Britain from the impending mischief. Let no many reflect that the ministry blundered in rousing the Americans to rebellion; that they blundered in believing them cowards; and that three regiments would subdue the united colonies..." with more (see).
Page 2 has a brief item noting: "...there had been a feu de joye in Washington's camp which was supposed to be on account of Gen. Lincoln's success in Carolina against the royal army...". Another notable item: "It is certain that the court of Spain hath concluded a treaty of alliance & commerce with the United States of North America..." (see). Another page has a letter from a man in an expedition from New York to Virginia which begins: "This little squib...did more mischief & occasioned more distress to our enemies than any thing of the distress to our enemies than any thing of the kind yet performed...".
Eight pages, 8 1/2 by 11 inches, nice condition.
