February 19, 1933

THE NEW YORK TIMES, February 19, 1933

* James John Corbett death (1st report)
* Only man to beat John L. Sullivan

This 80+ page newspaper has one column headlines on the front page that include: "CORBETT, RING IDOL, DIES AT AGE OF 66", "Ex-Champion Succumbs Here to Cancer--Believed He Had Heart Disease", "First Scientific Boxer", and more. Lengthy reporting continues on page 31 with related photos. Nice to have in this famous NYC title.

Other news of the day. Light browning with a little margin wear and various small tape mends within the pages, otherwise good.

wikipedia notes: James John "Gentleman Jim" Corbett (September 1, 1866 – February 18, 1933) was a heavyweight boxing champion, best known as the man who defeated the great John L. Sullivan.
