Page 2 includes: "Yesterday...General Burgoyne arrived in town from Rhode Island...The purpose of Gen. Burgoyne's message is said to be to solicit a ratification of the convention he concluded at Saratoga with Gen. Gates or if that cannot be done (because such a measure will be acknowledging the independency of America)...Another account says that Gen. Burgoyne wrote a letter to Gen. Washington desiring permission to go to England...if he was not present to justify his conduct, which request Gen. Washington immediately complied with." (see).
Another page has a related report noting: "...Lieut. General Burgoyne, by order of the King, was sent for to the Queen's Palace & held a conference with his Majesty for upwards of two hours...Gen. Burgoyne's troops are not suffered to come home until the enormous sum of 125,800 pounds is paid for their maintenance from the 17th of Oct. last..." with a bit more (see).
