Map of Maastricht, The Netherlands...

Item # 567336
THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, England, July, 1747

*
Map of Maastricht, The Netherlands

A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.

A nice features is a folout map titled: "A Plan of Maestricht, with the Adjacent Villages where the Battle was fought June 21...", which is in The Netherlands. The map shows  much details, folding out to measure 8 by 10 inches, and is close-trimmed at the top margin causing minor loss (see photos).

Nearly five pages are taken up with a list of recently elected members to Parliament. A full page is taken up with "A Letter on the Late Rebellion", referring to the Jacobite Rebellion (see for portions).

Two pages are taken up with a: "List of Ships Taken" which include several which were bound to or from North America and the West Indies.

Among other articles in this issue are:

* "Of Fire Damps in Deep Coal Mines"
*  many poems

Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" which has various news reports from throughout Europe.

Complete in 48 pgs. with full title/index page which contains an engraving of St. John's Gate. Small library stamps at the bottom of 2 pages do not cause loss of readability.  Measures about 5 by 8 inches, very nice condition.
