Max Schmeling K.O.'s Stribling In 1931...

Item # 562598

July 04, 1931

THE TIMES-PICAYUNE, New Orleans, Louisiana, July 4, 1931

* Max Schmeling (German Boxer)
* Young Stribling

This 18 page newspaper has a nice banner headline on the front page: "GERMAN BEATS STRIBLING BY TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT IN 15TH" with subheads and nice photo of Schmeling. (see)

More related reporting on page 7.

Other news of the day throughout. Light browning with little spine wear, otherwise good.

wikipedia notes: "Strib" missed his one great chance to become heavyweight champion of the world when he lost to Max Schmeling on July 3, 1931, on a technical knockout in the last 14 seconds of the 15th round. It was the first major fight to be broadcast live over national radio. When the fight ended, "Strib" went to shake hands with Schmeling who, although swarmed by photographers, insisted on being photographed with "Strib."
