* Edward 'Ted' Kennedy wins senate seat election

The November 7th issue has a four column headline on the front page: "Demos Hold Congress, GOP Gains in States".

This was Kennedy's first election win and was for the Massachusetts' senate seat left by his brother who was then president of the United States.

You also get the November 6th issue which has some pre election reporting with photo of JFK. (see)

Other news of the day. Little spine wear, otherwise in nice condition. Issues are 10 & 14 pages.

wikipedia notes: Edward Moore "Ted" Kennedy (February 22, 1932 – August 25, 2009) was a United States Senator from Massachusetts and a member of the Democratic Party. In office since November 1962, Kennedy served nine terms in the Senate. At the time of his death, he was the second most senior member of the Senate, after Robert Byrd of West Virginia, and the third-longest-serving senator in U.S. history. He was best known as one of the most outspoken and effective Senate proponents of progressive causes and bills. For many years the most prominent living member of the Kennedy family, he was the youngest brother of President John F. Kennedy and Senator Robert F. Kennedy, both victims of assassinations, and the father of Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy.

Kennedy was sworn in to the Senate on November 7, 1962. He maintained a deferential attitude towards the older, seniority-laden Southern members when he first entered the Senate, avoiding publicity and focusing on committee assignments and local issues. Compared to his brothers in office, he lacked John's sophistication and Robert's intense, sometimes grating drive, but was more affable than either of them.
