Lou Gehrig memorial dedication at Yankee Stadium...

Item # 562407

July 07, 1941

LEOMINSTER DAILY ENTERPRISE, Massachusetts, July 7, 1941

* Lou Gehrig memorial dedication at Yankee Stadium
* Joe DiMaggio hitting streak continues

On page 7 under: "WHAT HAPPENED IN THE BIG LEAGUE BASEBALL CONTESTS' has various news reports from the games held the day before. Among the reports is the report on the Yankees game with mention of the Lou Gehrig memorial dedication and Joe Dimaggio's continued hitting streak. (see photos)

A small report probably due to the fact this is a small town publication. But it is a 1st report. It is what it is.

Other news of the day. Light browning, otherwise in good condition.

wikipedia notes:
The Yankees dedicated a monument to Gehrig in center field at Yankee Stadium on July 6, 1941, the shrine lauding him as, "A man, a gentleman and a great ballplayer whose amazing record of 2,130 consecutive games should stand for all time." Gehrig's monument joined the one placed there in 1932 to Miller Huggins, which would eventually be followed by Babe Ruth's in 1949.
