June 12, 1873
ROCHESTER DEMOCRAT & CHRONICLE, New York, June 12, 1873
* Huge, graphic P. T. Barnum circus poster ad
* Captain Jack & the Modoc Indians
The ftpg. has one column heads on: "THE MODOCS" "Captain Jack Makes a Speech" with more (see photos), but certainly the prime content in this issue is the huge broadside-like, full page 3 advertisement for: "BARNUM'S GREAT SHOW" which is to perform in Rochester in a few weeks. See the various photos below for this terrific & very graphic ad, which features 20 engravings including one of P.T. Barnum himself as well as various scenes of his acts, including "Wild Fiji Cannibals" "Living Monster Sea Lions" "Great Rhinoceros" "The Celebrated Female Samson" & more. This ad measures 22 by 27 inches. There is a 2 by 3 in. piece clipped out of the bottom row of engravings and archivally repaired (see photo), otherwise this ad--and the entire issue--are in great condition.Complete in 4 pgs.
