July 11, 1780

THE MORNING HERALD, London, July 11, 1780 Page two contains a lengthy and interesting article concerning the retirement of the Prince of Wales, which includes in part: "The Prince of Wales has not suffered from the importunities of his tradesmen; they have not pressed upon his treasurer with clamour...his Highness steps forward with a Princely generosity...this is a conduct that will doubly endear him to the people! How will it read on the Continenent that the heir apparent of the crown of England denied that support which his high birth demands, has been driven...to annihilate his household, to leave a beautiful building in so unfinished a state as to be liable to decay, and to sell his horses, carriages, and all other appendages of rank! The Prince of Wales's retirement has struck every person with astonishment..." with much, much more (see photos for just a portion of the report). You get the complete 4 page newspaper of folio size, full red-inked tax stamp on the front page, archival mend at the blank spine margin, otherwise in quite nice, clean condition.
