Birmingham newspaper with a "call to arms"...

Item # 207749

January 15, 1798

ARIS'S BIRMINGHAM GAZETTE, England, January 15, 1798. This is perhaps the first 18th century newspaper we have offered from Birmingham. The front page includes a report from London which reports a "call to arms" by the government, beginning: "Government, convinced of the dangers which at present hang over us, are taking the necessary steps to guard against the threatened vengeance of the enemy..." with more (see photos), concerning troubles with France. Filled with various news & ads of the day, it is full folio size with 4 pages with a partial red-inked tax stamp on the front page. Nice condition.
