HARPER'S WEEKLY, New York, October 18, 1873 Perhaps the most famous print in this well known illustrated periodical is the full front page work by famed artist Thomas Nast captioned: "Out Of the Ruins" which shows President U.S. Grant as a policeman helping the Liberty figure out of the ruins of the buildings of Wall Street. The financial panic of 1873 was one of the more disastrous in American history. The caption also includes with Grant speaking: "I am glad to see that you are not seriously hurt. The Houses of this 'Street' have been shaky & on false bases for a long time, and you've had a very narrow escape."
A full page entitled "The Evangelical Alliance - American Representatives" featuring portraits of nine reverends. A half-page illustration "The Wreck of the 'Costa Rica'". A 1/4 page portrait of "The Late Admiral John A. Winslow" with an accompanying article.
Doublepage centerfold: 'An Emigrants' Boarding House in New York.' Full page: 'Sunday on the Canal.' A half page: 'Day Boat on the Hudson' and 'The Last Arrival'.
Complete in 16 pages and contains additional prints and related text.
