Great view of Chicago before the fire... Thomas Nast... Political cartoon...

HARPER'S WEEKLY, New York, Oct. 21, 1871 The full fron tpage is a Thomas Nast political cartoon entitled "The Only Thing They Respect or Fear". An article "The New York Seamen's Exchange" features a 1/4 page illustration. "The Smithfield Martyrs' Memorial Church" features a 1/3 page illustration. A half-page illustration "Shanghaiing Sailors".
A great doublepage centerfold is of a "Birds-Eye View of Chicago as it was Before the Great Fire" (typically contains small binding holes). A 3/4 page "Riding the Elephant in the London Zoological Gardens' and of "Opening the Mont Cenis Tunnel".
The issue is complete in 16 pages, in good condition, and contains additional prints and related text. See photos for details.
PLEASE NOTE: The Supplement which includes two nice fullpage illustrations: 'Along the New York Docks - Preaching in the Open Air' and 'Along the New York Docks - An Unaristocratic International Restaurant', and an article on "Murat Halstead" which includes a nearly halfpage illustration of him is included when available. However, if this is absolutely needed, OR, if the birdseye-view Chicago print needs to not contain the typical small binding holes, be in touch.
