July 04, 1863

WALTON'S MORNING JOURNAL, Montpelier, Vt., July 4, 1863 The inset shows the page 2 heads reporting the famous battle of Gettysburg. Just below this report are heads concerning the surrender of Vicksburg. Both are early reports with each providing details about the battles. There are yet two more heads in the next column: "Very Latest!" "Rumored Capture of Richmond" with the report from Baltimore stating: "The News of this city has a dispatch from Fortress Monroe, stating that Richmond is probably captured." Another pg. 2 report headed "From The Seat Of War" gives additional particulars about Gettysburg. Other coverage about Gettysburg and Vicksburg as well. Nice, early reporting in this uncommon title. First leaf has three very small holes causing minimal effect on the text, some light foxing on the ftpg., otherwise in good condition. Tabloid-size, with four pages.
