Page 3 has close to half a column headed: "Treaty With Japan" which is reporting on the historic visit of Commodore Perry to Japan. The report gives some of the provisions of the treaty which accomplished many wishes of the Americans, including an opening of trade to the previously isolated island of Japan (see).
