NEW YORK TRIBUNE, May 31, 1854 "The Boston Fugitive Slave Case". The case of fugitive slave Anthony Burns was a very notable one attracting national attention to the evils of the Fugitive Slave Act, just enacted in 1850. See the hyperlink for much detail on this case and details on the Fugitive Slave Act.
This issue has one  of the detailed accounts of the Burns case to be found in a period newspaper, the amount of space devoted to the case--taking nearly 3 columns--is evidence of the national interest. The report gives much detail on the hatred towards the Fugitive Slave Act this incident created, and much sympathy for Anthony Burns. The photos show only portions.
Also in this issue is: "The Fugitive Law And Trial By Jury" "The Mormon Governor" and: "New Mexico" "The Details of the Different Battles With The Indians" which takes over 3 columns, has 5 accounts, and includes mention of Kit Carson.
