THE HANGMAN, Boston, Massachusetts, September 17, 1845

* Capital punishment - hangings

A volume one issue of a quite rare anti-capital punishment  newspaper by J. N. Bang. This title existed for only one year, continuing thereafter as "The Prisoner's Friend".
The entire front page is taken up with: "The Trial of Henry Duval, for Murder" and inside page articles include: "History of Capital Punishment, Number VI","The New Hampshire State Prison", "All Sorts", Henry G. Green", and other items. Page 2 has a black-bordered section listing those: "Under Sentence of Death!" noting the sate, name, the crime, and date of execution.
Complete as a four page newspaper, measures 12 1/2 by 17 1/4 inches, with slight dampstaining in the upper right corner, otherwise in very good condition.
