DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Richmond, Virginia, Feb. 21, 1865
* Closing months of the Civil War
* Confederate editor keeps a positive view
One of the more famous Confederate newspapers, printed in the capital of the Confederacy. The front page includes the always interesting editorial, this one beginning: "The enemy is now gathering all the available forces from all Yankee armies & garrisons, and directing them in one combined movement against Richmond. Sherman advancing through South Carolina while Beauregard slowly retreats before him towards Charlotte.." and much more. Keep in mind that this is from the closing months of the Civil War, yet the editor tries to maintain a positive viewpoint on the Confederacy (see photos).
Also on the back page are: "Confederate States Congress" "The War News" "Proclamation Of Gov. Vance to the People of North Carolina" which focuses on their desperate struggle against the Yankees (see photos); "The Virginia Legislature" "Latest News From the North--Operations on the Cape Fear River--Mobile--Another Confederate Privateer Afloat..." "Still Later From the North" "Interesting From Nassau" and more.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper with a one column masthead, typical from the closing months of the Civil War as paper was in very short supply in the Confederacy. Never bound nor trimmed, nice condition.
