March 14, 1771
THE PENNSYLVANIA JOURNAL & WEEKLY ADVERTISER, Philadelphia, March 14, 1771

* Rare 18th century title - great masthead engraving
* Taxation without representation complaint to the King

A very large & ornate engraving in the masthead (see). Page 2 has a "Petition...to the King's most Excellent Majesty" from the House of Burgesses of Virginia, which includes their plea: "...submitted to your royal wisdom our just claims to be free & exempt from all taxes imposed on us without our own consent..." with much, much more concerning this issue (see), signed in type by the Speaker: Peyton Randolph. Page 3 includes from Philadelphia a list of laws passed by the General Assembly.

The front page has an ad: "A NEGRO MAN, to Be Disposed of..." and the back page has 3 runaway slave ads, one actually noting: "a slave for life".
Four pages, very nice condition.
