THE NEW YORK TIMES, Nov. 5, 1879
* Jesse James killed ?
* Outlaw - train robber
As a follow-up to the report from the previous day in which was announced the death of Jesse James, this issue seems to back-peddle a bit. Page 5 has; "The Killing Of Jesse James" "Sheppard's Story Of the Shooting Doubtful". The report includes: "At Galena, where Sheppard, who claims to have killed Jesse James is confined to his room...Large bodies of men are still scouring the country for some trace of the body & the remaining members of the gang. There is a growing suspicion, however, that James is still alive..." with more (see photos).
Eight pages, evening toning, more so at the margins, some tears at the margins, partially loose at the spine.
