February 24, 1964
THE DETROIT FREE PRESS, Michigan, February 24, 1964

* NASCAR National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing
* 6th Annual Daytona 500
* Richard "The King" Petty winner (1st report)

This 40 page newspaper has a two column headline on the front page of the sport's section (inside, near the back): "Plymouths Finish 1-2-3 At Daytona", with related photo (see images).

The coverage tells of the 6th Daytona 500 race in which driver Richard Petty won.

Due to the lack of popularity of NASCAR in the mid-1960's, reporting of these races are either non-existence in most newspapers or are small in comparison of other sports of the time. Nonetheless, still a historic 1st report.

Other news of the day. Some small binding holes along the spine, otherwise good.

wikipedia notes: The 1964 Daytona 500 was won by Richard Petty driving a 1964 Plymouth. Petty drove his number 43 to victory in three hours and 14 minutes. There were 2 cautions flags which slowed the race for 10 laps.
