THE EDINBURGH EVENING COURANT, Scotland, Sept. 18, 1775  Almost half of the front page is taken up with a 1770 letter from Governor T. Hutchinson of Massachusetts relating, in part, to recent Acts of Parliament. Page 2 has over a column of news headed: "America" with reports datelined Newport, New London, New York, and Cambridge. Some reports include: "...the Canadians & Indians cannot be persuaded by Gov. Carlton to join his forces but are determined to remain neuter...Quebec and Montreal have been left quite bare of troops..." and: "...near Charlestown Neck a warm fire began between our advanced parties & those of the enemy, attended with cannonading from the enemy's works on Bunker's Hill..." and  much more.
Page 3 has a nice: "...instruction to officers of the several regiments of the Massachusetts Bay forces who are immediately to go upon the recruiting service..." which is signed in type by: Horatio Gates. It includes: "...You are not to enlist any deserter from the ministerial army nor any stroller, negro, or vagabond, or person suspected of being an enemy to the liberty of America...best that can engage men of courage & principle to take up arms..." with more (see).
