June 12, 1863
THE LIBERATOR, Boston, June 12, 1863

This is the famous anti-slavery newspaper by famed abolitionist publisher William Lloyd Garrison. The masthead features two engravings, one of a slave auction and the other showing slaves being emancipated (see).

* Contrasting views of the colored troops
* Colors being made for the 55th Massachusetts Colored Regiment

Page 2 has a nice report on the "Conduct of Negro Troops", which is highly favorable to their efforts.  Page 3 has an article providing similar praise, titled, "Colored Soldiers".  These reports are starkly contrasted by a very scathing report to the contrary, titled "Weed Them Out".  These articles, along with many additional reports within this issue, provide a great perspective of the tensions regarding Negroes during the Civil War.

Page 3 has a brief mention of colored woman of Ohio making the colors for the Massachusetts 55th Colored Regiment.

Great to have this content in an anti-slavery newspaper.

Complete in four pages.  The issue has a 1 inch square piece missing from the left margin which, although impacting a few letters of text in inconsequential reports, is non-archivally mended (see images).  Otherwise, the issue is quite nice.
