March 29, 1814
THE WAR, New York, March 29, 1814  This is a very interesting newspaper as it existed for one purpose: to report the news from the War of 1812. It began publication shortly after the war began, & ceased to publish once the war was over.
The entire ftpg. has several correspondences concerning: "...explaining the causes of the failure of our arms on the Northern Frontier." including documents signed in type by Isaac Shelby, Wade Hampton, and John Armstrong. These documents carry over to page 2 as well.
Page 2 also has: "Grand Naval Challenge" signed in type: S. Decatur, with more from him carrying over to page 3. Page 3 also has: "Rattlesnake & Enterprize" datelined from Wilmington, North Carolina, being commander Jn. O Creighton's reports of their military efforts (see for portions). The bkpg. includes: "Summary, From the frontiers..." "Now For the Tug of War!" "Late From France" "General Court Martial" and "Marine Memoranda".
Four pages, measures about 9 1/4 by 11 1/2 inches, small hole near the bottom of the front leaf due to thinness in the paper & not wear, scattered foxing.
