THE DAILY DELTA, New Orleans, Louisiana, March 6, 1861 Truly Confederate newspapers from New Orleans are very difficult to find, as Admiral Farragut entered the mouth of the Mississippi in mid-April, 1862 and finally took New Orleans on April 28. Shortly thereafter Benjamin Butler moved in and took control of the city, it surrendering without a fight.

So "Confederate" issues from New Orleans are limited to those published between Louisiana's secession from the Union on January 26, 1861 and the end of April, 1862, just a brief 15 month period.

Notable content, from just a few weeks before the start of the Civil War, includes a front page report: "Reception Of Maj. Gen. D.E. Twiggs" "The Citizen Soldiers And The Population Of New Orleans Giving Greeting And Welcome To the Hero".

Page 2 has: "Opinions Of The Inaugural In Washington" "It Is Considered A Declaration Of War" "Advice of Southern Men to Gov. Pickens" & Latest From Montgomery" "War Considered Inevitable" "The Standing Army of the Confederate States" "The War Strength of the Confederate States".

Page 3 ads include: "Please Call At No. 58 Baronne Street...Carefully and Well Selected Lot of Negroes For Sale..." & "CAROLINA AND VIRGINIA NEGROES...just arrived...they will be sold...", plus: "SALE OF NEGROES--Over One Hundred..." & "For Sale--Just Received, a Gang of South Carolina Cotton-field Hands...", each with a small engraving. Many steamboat ads on pg. 4 & the back page, each with a small engraving of a steamboat.

Little foxing and minor spine wear, otherwise in nice condition.
