Fascinating Study in Historical Contrast !
* "Negroes to Hire"
* "America Makes History"
Here are two genuine issues, dated 150 years apart, with dramatically variant content.
The first issue is:
THE DAILY JOURNAL, Wilmington, North Carolina, April 21, 1858 This 4 page issue has news of the day with several interesting advertisements including some regarding pre civil war Southern slavery. page 3 has:
* $25 reward (for a negro man named JOHN MOTT)
Another related ad on the same page. (see)
Good condition.
The second issue is:
USA TODAY, November 5, 2008 The historic front page headline reads: "America Makes History OBAMA WINS" with other front page reporting and a photo of Barack Obama with his family (see photos).
What a fascinating pair of issues from an historical perspective. Appreciate the great strides which have been made since just before the civil war until now, played out in of both issues! Dramatic if framed and displayed together.
A terrific pair of issues noting the great strides made in Civil Rights.
