THE CHARTER OAK, Hartford, Connecticut, October 1, 1846
* Uncommon Anti Slavery society periodical
* Nice illustrated masthead
* "The Slave's Petition"
A very uncommon title originally published as the Christian Freeman by the Connecticut Anti-Slavery Society, and then under this title. Obviously has anti-slavery content, but also news of the day and other content.
The front page has a poem: "The Slave's Petition"
A volume I issue (number 39), has an engraving of an oak tree in the masthead.
Some various light foxing, otherwise in nice condition.
