August 28, 1861
THE DAILY DELTA, New Orleans, Louisiana, February 1, 1862  Truly Confederate newspapers from New Orleans are very difficult to find, as Admiral Farragut entered the mouth of the Mississippi in mid-April, 1862 and finally took New Orleans on April 28. Shortly thereafter Benjamin Butler moved in and took control of the city, it surrendering without a fight. So "Confederate" issues from New Orleans are limited to those published between Louisiana's secession from the Union on January 26, 1861 and the end of April, 1862, just a brief 15 month period.
Among the war-related reports in this issue is a front page account headed: "The Battle of Fishing Creek" (see for portions). Also on the ftpg. are: "Disturbances Among Negroes in Kentucky" "Where is Cumberland Gap?" "The Sham Election in Baltimore" "Our Executive & Our Soldiers" and more. Also a ftpg. illustrated ad headed: "Negroes For Sale".
Pg. 2 has various tidbits on the Civil War including; "Outrages in East Tennessee" "Mr. Seward's Novelties" "Europe & the War" and many smaller items as well.
Pg. 3 is entirely taken up with ads including an illustrated ad beginning: "Ranaway--The slave woman Elizabeth, about 23 years old...". Rare to have mention of the word "slave" in such an ad.
Complete in four pgs., an old tape mend to pg. 2 does not affect any mentioned reports, a bit irregular at the blank spine, otherwise nice.
