January 12, 1863
CHARLESTON DAILY COURIER, South Carolina, Jan. 12, 1863 One of the nice features of this issue is printed in the dateline: "Confederate States of America", rarely found in Southern titles from the Civil War. The ftpg. has several items concerning the war including: "From Richmond" with several subheads: "The Situation West" "From Chattanooga--Later Reports of the Enemy's Movements" "Yankee Prisoners Taken the Oath of Allegiance" "Battle of Murfreesboro" being the report signed by Gen. W. S. Rosecrans (see), & a few other items. Pg. 2 has some war-related tidbits and a good number of ads, with pg. 3 entirely taken up with ads. The bkpg. has "Report of the Board for the Relief of Families of Soldiers in the Parishes of St. Phillip & St. Michael" which takes 1 1/2 columns. also: "Overtures for Peace--A Yankee Canard". Complete in 4 pgs., never bound nor trimmed, and in uncommonly nice condition with a bit of light foxing but otherwise nice. Rare to find Confederate titles in such condition.
