July 10, 1861
CENTRAL GEORGIAN, Sandersville, Georgia, July 10, 1861 Quite rare to find this obscure, small town newspaper from the east-central part of Georgia, current population less than 7,000.
The front page is almost entirely taken up with literary articles. Page 2 has some reports on the Civil War with small heads including: "Hancock Volunteers" "Law and Order" "Military Notice" "Important From Arkansas" "The Killed at Winchester" "Engagement Near Winchester" and more.
Most of page 3 & the back page are taken up with ads including a page 3 ad for: "Negroes Wanted...Likely Negroes..." and a "$10 Reward" ad for a runaway Negro man, with details.
The very top of the front leaf has a 1/2 by 1 1/2 inch piece removed, not close to any text or ink. At one point the paper suffered ink stains which have since eaten through the paper in two locations (see), while in other places the stains are small & caused no damage. Complete in 4 pages & some foxing at the spine.
