WILKES' SPIRIT OF THE TIMES, New York, NY, May 3, 1862.
* Boxing
* Baseball
This newspaper, which was primarily a sporting newspaper, has a quite lengthy article headed: "The Ring in England". Accompanying subheads include: Heenan, Tom Sayers, and Mace", "Fight for the Light Weight Championship between Joe Nolan and Dan Thomas", "Gallant and Determined Fight between J. Baldock and Jack Brookes, for 50", and much more.
Another article found within this issue and entitled: "Our Chess Department" includes a "problem of the week" and the answer to the previous weeks' problem.
Additionally, an article reading "Baseball" can also be found as well. It is quite rare to find an article concerning baseball from before the Civil War, making this issue very unique.
This 16 page issue also includes some Civil War reports as well as other sports items, including boxing. Nice.
