THE NEW-YORK GAZETTE & WEEKLY MERCURY, Sept. 25, 1769 This is a nice colonial newspaper by the famed printer Hugh Gaine, printed some six months before the Boston Massacre. Most of the ftpg. content seems to have a religious theme. The inside pgs. have reports from Europe & the colonies, including a letter from Fort Pitt which begins: "I told you in my last we were alarmed at the Behaviour of the Indians..." with more. Another report includes: "...Mr. G. Grenville, the famous Projector of all American Grievances, is now vigorous in the opposition to the Court & declares aloud against the expediency & legality of the Acts. Dr. Franklin is the best friend America ever had. With a noble freedom of spirit, he utters his sentiments upon all proper occasions." The bkpg. is entirely taken up with ads in additions to some found on pg. 3 as well. Complete in 4 pgs., some wear at the margins, very nice engraving of a coat-of-arms in the masthead, featuring two Indians (see). Generally very nice condition.
