THE EDINBURGH EVENING COURANT, Scotland, Aug. 16, 1775 Half a column on the ftpg. is taken up with a report headed: "America" with a Williamsburg, Virginia dateline, mostly being: "...joint address of the Hon. council & House of burgesses of Virginia..." which concern the raiding of the arsenal at Williamsburg by the colonists which was a hotly disputed incident at the time (see). Pg. 2 has much on the Revolutionary War including a reference to Washington being named Commander-in-Chief with: "The commission from the Congress to General Washington...is addressed in these words: 'to our beloved brother George Washington, Esq., Captain General and Commander in Chief of all the Forces of the United Colonies." There is much more on the war on pgs. 2 & 3, too much to mention here but portions are shown in the photos. Included is a reference to the Battle of Bunker Hill with: "...Gen. Clinton sent from his camp on Bunker's hill a flag to our on Prospect hill with letters from our prisoners...There have been no skirmishes on this side since the 17th..." the 17th being the date of the battle of Bunker Hill. Four pgs., folio size, some lite dirtiness, archivally repaired at the spine, generally nice.
