THE EDINBURGH EVENING COURANT, Scotland, July 12, 1775 This issue has a great wealth of American content from the very beginning of the Revolutionary War.. Most of pg. 2 is taken up with American news, too much to mention here in their entirety but a few reports include: "...carried some provisions to Providence for the use of the Boston Provincials..." "In Provincial Congress held for the Colony of New York...Whereas the enemies of American liberty are indefatigable in their endeavours to disunite these colonies...evil-minded persons may insinuate that the northern colonies have hostile intentions against our fellow subjects in Canada..." and "...an express arrived here form Ticonderoga...we learn that Major Arnold dispatched Mr. Oswell & 35 men...to take possession of a sloop...at the same time Captain Ethan Allan set out with 80 men to facilitate the undertaking...but Mr. Oswell pursued his scheme & took possession of the vessel...before Capt. Allan came up...fell in with 250 regulars that were dispatched to the succour of Crown Point & Ticonderoga & after exchanging a full shot made a good retreat with the loss of 3 men only..." and a report from Phila. includes: "...arrived here from Ticonderoga...letters from Lt. Malcolm Fraser...that Gen. Carlton has almost unlimited powers..." and from Cambridge: "...Lt. Gould taken prisoner at Lexington, April 19, is exchanged for an old man named Breed..." and from Phila.: "The Tories in New York are either converted to Whigs or have deserted their colours..." and a lengthy report from Ticonderoga with much of the details immediately after its capture by Benedict Arnold & Ethan Allen (see photos). so much more as well, carrying over to pg. 3 with: "...that if the resolutions of the General Congress should be hostile, a price will be set on their heads by proclamation." and much more. Four pgs., folio size, some chipping at the right margin barely touches a few letters on pg. 2, few minor margin tears, generally good.
