THE DAILY POST-BOY, London, December 10, 1730

* Rare lengthy article re. American Colonies
* Trade
* 18th century original

Taking all of the front page of this issue is a lengthy and detailed excerpt from the "...useful Work, entitled Atlas Maritimus & Commercials, that discusses...the Trade...Of the British Colonies on the Continent of America." The excerpt begins by listing the names of the colonies and other British possessions in America, stating that: "The Trade of these is the same, especially of the first six Colonies, only with some Distinction for the particular Productions of each Colony. They are the same in this respect, that they are all Subjects of the same Government, so they are all under the same general Regulation of the their Commerce, fix'd and establish'd by the Act of Navigation, viz. That their Productions are to be exported to the Dominions of Great Britain only, except their Provisions." A bit more about the regulations, the text then lists and describes the "trade" produced by the colonies, including tobacco, furs, "Whale Fishing", timber, tar and pitch, various agricultural products and much more. Of particular interest is the mention of "Negro Slaves" used in Virginia and Maryland: "...their Plantations being so...large ...the planting of Tobacco being their only Care, and taking up all their Hands, and even more than all; which occasions them to buy so many Negro Slaves...".

Quite interesting to read, taking the entire front page and concluding on the reverse. Early and uncommon to have so much content about the colonies, especially on the front page.

A single sheet measuring about 16 by 9 1/4 inches, in very good condition.
