THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, March 6, 1777.

* Howe advances upon Philadelphia
* Colonists are stubbornly successful

  Page 23 includes a "Letter form New York to a Gentleman in Glasgow" includes: "The provinces to the north of this & the five southern ones continue very violent still, and intend making a stout resistance in the spring...Before the defeat of the Hessians, many came in daily & took the oaths of allegiance...but since that period very few had appeared & the rebels had acquired fresh spirit & their numbers had encreased considerably... General Howe would begin the operations of the campaign till early in March when his principal object will probably be an attack on Philadelphia...main body of the King's army are all contoned in Brunswick & Amboy..." & a bit more. Anothber pg. has a nice article on composer Frederick Handel. Another pg. has reports from the "Royal American Gazette", with datelines from Williamsburg and New York, with war-related news including: "...a large body of rebels made an attack upon Fort Independence...& were bravely repulsed...". A bkpg. report includes: "A letter from New York...says...that Lord Cornwallis had advanced as far as Burlington which is within 20 miles of Phila..." with more (see photos). A few other war-related items as well. Complete in 8 pgs., measures 8 1/2 by 11 inches, some dirtiness to the front pg. only, very nice condition.
