THE LONDON GAZETTE, England, Aug. 12, 1727.
* Death of King George
* Early 18th century original
Six of the eight pages of this issue are taken up with letters of condolence to the new King George II concerning the recent death of his father, King George I with two such letters on the front page beginning:
* "The sudden & unexpected Death of your Majesty's Royal Father, filled our hearts with surprize and sorrow..." and "The sudden & surprizing death of your Royal Father would have filled our Hearts with Grief & Sorrow, wholly inconsolable, had we not, at the same instant, been sufficiently relieved by your Majesty's immediate accession to the Throne in Peace & Tranquility...".
The other 7 such letters on the inside pages have a similar tone.
Measures about 7 14 by 11 1/2 inches, very nice condition, partial red-ink tax stamp at the bottom of the ftpg..
