April 25, 1776
THE PENNSYLVANIA EVENING POST, Philadelphia, April 25, 1776  The ftpg. has reports from the Penna. Assembly concerning setting the pay for those who allow soldiers to use their homes & businesses: "...the sum of sixpense for each meal with one pint of cyder or small beer that shall be by them so furnished to any soldier of the United Colonies..." with more. Also included are the: "...rules & regulations proposed by the Committee for the better Government of the Military Association in Pennsylvania" which carries over to take all of pg. 2 & most of pg. 3 with 39 points (see photos for portions). Pg. 3 contains a letter which begins: "The movement of the troops from Boston to Canada is the only measure which assures success in the reduction of America to due obedience...from the frontiers of that province the troops can with great facility possess the interior fertile country which forms the great object of the rebels resources..." with more. A bkpg. item from Boston notes: "Last Monday the remains of the brave General Warren were reinterred at Boston. Col. Phiney's regiment marched first with drums & fifes in mourning--then the Free Masons--the remains--the relations--friends & town's people..." with more. Also the bkpg. has a letter which includes: "I have been told that General Wooster is gone to Quebec...when le left Montreal that he should scale the walls of that place if there was space sufficient between them & the heavens..." and "...one of the piratical tenders that invest this coast came into Rockaway inlet, on the south end of Long Island, for plunder, but unlucky for them they got aground. A part of our troops, receiving information of it, marched with two field pieces to attack her..." plus some other items referencing the Revolutionary War. Complete in 4 pgs., measures about 8 by 10 in., very nice condition. Nice to have a Philadelphia newspaper dated 1776.
