August 01, 1812
THE WAR, New York, August 1, 1812  This is an interesting and somewhat short-lived newspaper which came into existence for the expressed purpose of reporting news from the War of 1812.  When the war ended so did this newspaper.

The front page has various reports from the "Senate of the United States" which carries over to page 2. Page 3 has a rather lengthy: "List of Acts Passed at the First Session of the 12th Congress". Page 2 has: "For The War" being an editorial which begins: "While this country was at peace with England, I forbore every expression that might tend to iritate or prevent that good understanding which I verily believed would have been effected by negotiation, so clearly did such a result appear for the interest of both parties & especially for England, because she depended more on America than America did on her..." with much more. Also pg. 2 has: "U.S. Frigate Constitution" which is in its arrival, & more (see photos).

Pg. 3 has: "Our Frontiers" and "Fate of War" and a "List of Vessels Taken & Burnt by the Squadron commanded by Commodore Brooke". also: "Privateers Captured". Other content is headed: "Riots" "Baltimore Riot" "Naval & Marine Memoranda" "Naval Matters" "Brave Defence" and even more.  Page 8 has an unusual printing of two pieces of music by Mr. O'Hara (see photos).

This is an 8 page issue, while most issuesof this title tend to be 4 pages. Scattered light foxing throughout, some minor tears at margins, a bit irregular at the spine.

A great wealth of fine reporting from the War of 1812!
