December 19, 1903
SPRINGFIELD DAILY REPUBLICAN, Massachusetts, Dec. 19, 1903 It would be difficult to argue a more noteworthy event in the 20th century which changed the world more than manned flight. It all began at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina when Orville & Wilbur Wright first flew in December, 1903. My guess is about half of the newspapers of the day did not report the event, but here is one that did.
Page 6 has a report which is lengthier than most, and with a nice heading: "A Successful Flying Machine" "Trial Made By Two Ohio Men" Trip of Three Miles in Face of Wind Near Kitty Hawk, N.C." with the various details noted (see photo for the complete report).
You get the complete 16 page newspaper, bit irregular at the spine, light browning throughout but moreso near the edges, some edge tears & minor archival mends, generally in very nice condition for a newspaper of this vintage. This is one of the better reports on the Wright brothers we have had the pleasure to offer, and dated just 2 days after their historic flight.
