SAVANNAH DAILY LOYAL GEORGIAN, Dec. 26, 1864 The motto just above the dateline reads: "Redeemed, Regenerated and Disenthraled! The Union, It Must and Shall be Preserved!"
This is an extremely rare and short-lived newspaper published just four days after the Yankee soldiers captured and moved into Savannah (Sherman's Christmas present to Lincoln).
This is volume one, number two, just the 2nd of only 4 issues published. The front page has various one column heads as seen in the photos below, including: "GLORIOUS NEWS!" "Union Army Everywhere Victorious" "Complete Defeat of Hood's forces near Nashville" "Rebel General Forrest Reported Killed & 1500 of His Men Captured" "Hood's Army Driven Beyond Franklin" "The Union Cavalry Close upon his Heels" and more. Plus there are a number other small heads, including "Dispatches from Gen. Sherman" "Power of the Federal Government" and more.
A single sheet newspaper in quite nice condition, with virtually no edge tears or margin damage. An exceedingly rare title and an historic item from the Civil War!
