THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, England, January, 1800 (we may only have one remaining). Near the back of this issue under the section headed: "Obituary, with Anecdotes, of Remarkable Persons" is the historic report of the death of George Washington. Beginning with the date of his death, the obituary reads in part:
"14. At his seat at Mount Vernon, in America, in his 68th year, after a short illness of about 24 hours, the illustrious General George Washington. His disorder was an inflammatory sore throat, which proceeded from a cold, of which he made but little complaint on the 13th..." with much more (see photos below).
It is interesting reading this obituary in a publication from England as Washington was obviously the source of much frustration to the British efforts during the Revolutionary War less than 20 years prior.
Complete as a 96 pg. issue with full title/index page. Measures about 5 by 8 inches.
