THE NEW YORK TIMES, Oct. 29, 1939. This is a significant issue for any
Jackie Robinson collector, as this is the very first mention of him in
the prestigious New York Times. The report is actually of a U.C.L.A.
football game as he was a multi-sport standout. His name appears both
in the line-up for U.C.L.A. as well as in the text, with mention:
"A 45 yard forward pass by Kenny Washington to Jackie Robinson, good for 66 yards...".
This report appears on the sports page. You get the complete Sunday
issue (rather thick) which is in nice condition save for some chipping
at the margins.
