NEW YORK DAILY TRIBUNE, December 13, 1849 This four page newspaper has a great back page ad for "California Gold Dust" (see photos).
The front page has wonderful reports from Oregon and California, including a report headed: "Fort Vancouver and the establishment There - The Hudson's Bay Company - Voyage Down the Columbia" and a report from Oregon concerning the establishment of the territorial legislature and the reaction of the local Indians.
Another report describes the politics (in California) related to the surge in population.
All three reports give great details concerning the impact of westward expansion. See the many photos below. The back page ad for gold dust is a nice companion item.
