This newspaper was first published by the Oklahoma Boomer Movement to agitate for the opening of the unassigned lands in the Indian Territory to homesteading. The paper was first published at Wichita, Kansas, in 1883, and after several moves to towns along Kansas's southern border the publisher moved the printing press to Rock Falls in the Indian Territory in 1884 despite prohibitions of printing a newspaper in the Cherokee Strip. A quite uncommon title meant for the Indians in the territory. The motto in the masthead notes: "Christian Education the Hope of the Indian." This title is not noted in Gregory's "Union List of Newspapers", nor are any held by the American Antiquarian Society (although this date might be out of their scope of interest). This is the first of this title we have offered. Eight pages, many older tape mends along with more recent archival mends, partially rejoined at the spine, some loss at the margins of the central fold. Generally in "2nd rate" condition, yet a quite rare, scarce title.
