August 19, 1859
NEW YORK SEMI-WEEKLY TRIBUNE, Aug. 19, 1859 During this time famed Tribune publisher Horace Greeley took a trip to the West and wrote a series of articles on is adventures. This is report: "AN OVERLAND JOURNEY - XIX. - From Bridger To Salt Lake" dated from Salt Lake City, July 11, 1859.
The report is extremely descriptive and takes nearly 2 1/2 columns. Not surprisingly, there is much about the Mormons here. Photos show less than half of the text.
Also present is: "Douglas on Citizenship and the Slave Trade" which is a letter written by Stephen A. Douglas, followed by: "Reformed Presbytery on the Slave Trade". At the bottom of this same page is the advertisement (from the Atlanta Constitution): "Sale of Negroes - High Prices". Uncommon to have such an ad in a northern paper during this era.
An article on the front page has: "Another Nigger Lost" which is included in this listing so we NEVER FORGET how Blacks were treated in the past.
Eight pages, good condition.
