* Battle of the Alamo fame

A hero of the Battle of the Alamo some nine years later first drew national attention for his involvement in the Sandbar fight in Mississippi. The Sandbar Fight was a Sept. 19 brawl featuring Jim Bowie which first showcased his knife, which later became known as the Bowie knife. The brawl occurred at the conclusion of a duel, and resulted in Bowie being seriously injured. Bowie was nonetheless the victor.
The various details of the bight take almost half a page with the subhead: "Terrible Rencontre" and makes specific mention of the knife which would give him fame: "...they both advanced on each other, Wright with a sword cane, and Bowie with a large butcher knife..." with more.
The Battle of the Sandbar lasted more than 10 minutes, leaving Samuel Cuny and Norris Wright dead, and another four men - Alfred Blanchard, Carey Blanchard, Robert Crain and Jim Bowie - wounded.
Sixteen pages, 6 by 9 3/4 inches, light dirtiness and rubbing on the front page, otherwise nice.
